Topicals vs. Tinctures: Which One’s for You?

From chapstick to lotion, CBD can be administered in a variety of different forms. Some of the most popular methods of consumption include using it topically or in the form of a tincture. Topical CBD products include anything that can be directly applied to the skin including balms and salves. CBD tinctures, on the other hand, are most often consumed orally by mixing it into beverages or directly ingesting it.

There are many benefits to using CBD-infused topicals and tinctures. One of the major benefits of topical application is the ability to target a very specific area. By applying it directly to the skin, cannabinoids are quickly absorbed through your pores. Topical application is fast and focused which makes it a powerful aid for joint and muscle pain. This is often a preferred method for individuals who are being introduced to the CBD market and want targeted treatment.

Utilizing CBD in the form of a tincture can offer a different experience. “When you take CBD orally, the compounds eventually enter the bloodstream. This means the cannabinoids are able to interact with cannabinoid receptors throughout the body, from the brain and central nervous system to peripheral organs and the immune system.” This is differs from applying CBD topically because the cannabinoids never enter the bloodstream yielding a more focused application. A tincture of CBD can easily be incorporated into cooking or added to a cup of coffee. Tinctures are also an accommodating form for animals, for it can be added to their food, rubbed directly into their coats, and mixed with their shampoo.

As the CBD market continues to expand, so does the variety of products available to the public. Whether you prefer topicals or tinctures, it’s important to conduct your own research and find out what works for you.
